El Cazador Mexican Restaurant
Grill and Cantina
A nice Whidbey Island Restaurant

El Cazador Mexican Restaurant - Grill and Cantina
32195 State Route 20 (in the Jack In The Box/Subway/Kmart parking lot)
Oak Harbor, WA 98277

We have dined at El Cazador Mexican Restaurant many, many times since we moved here. Another Whidbey Island Restaurant that can't be ignored.

Of course, first up is the chips and salsa. I don't think El Cazador makes their own chips, I think they're store-bought or probably trucked in by a supplier (but they're good so they pass). :)

The salsa is delivered to the table in very small carafe type bottles, and you pour the salsa from the bottle into a bowl. It's a thinner salsa than I'm used to but the flavor has always been terrific.

Yay! It's time for the food... Our favorites:

I like a combo with one shredded pork tamale and two shredded beef tacos, with refried beans (no rice on my plate!). Unfortunately that particular combo isn't on the menu but they put it together for me anyway. :)

Curtis likes to get the deep-fried chimichanga with ground beef and he gives me the sour cream and guacamole that comes with it (he's so sweet... ;). He gets rice (no beans on his plate!)

Our daughter Shelby throughly enjoys the tamales and tacos as much as I do (but she gets rice AND beans). She doesn't like the fact that the tacos get soggy from the juice in the shredded beef.

The taco shells are like the store bought taco shells, like the boxed Taco Bell shells, rather than corn tortillas fried into taco shells right there in the restaurant; it's actually no wonder that they get so soggy.

Our son Cameron enjoys their cheeseburgers (HOLD the mayo and pickles) and their enchiladas, but with french fries, no rice OR beans on his plate. They say "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" and I have to say that I ALWAYS ordered hamburgers (no cheese) at mexican restaurants when I was growing up (much to the chagrin of my parents, but, oh well).

I have become a major lover of mexican food, I could eat it every day (no more burgers for me when in a Mexican restaurant!).

And all through dinner, the waiters/waitresses keep those yummy chips and salsa flowing.

Don't forget to quench that thirst!

Every time we've been there, the soda that has come from the kitchen has been flat so now we request soda from the bar right off the bat and then it's fine. So beware of that, when you order your soda if you like carbonation you might ask right away for the soda to come from the bar.

I haven't tried the margaritas yet; the kids are scandalized when I have a drink because I drink so little but one day I'll be trying out the margaritas. :)

The cringe factor...

Ah, there's not too much cringing here.

The price is what you'd expect for a family of four that eats well, in a nice restaurant - approximately $50 without alcohol drinks and before tip.

When you're done with dinner they'll take your payment at the table and they have these yummy little green starmints that they bring to you.

Extras...

El Cazador Mexican Restaurant has Karaoke on specific nights but it's not something we can take our kids to, so I'll leave that to you to discover. :)

The restaurant can host your meeting or party, as they have the main dining room, and two adjoining areas as well.

And if you can't get your group to El Cazador, they offer catering as well.

And this is too cool, El Cazador Mexican Restaurant delivers!

So if you're here visiting or vacationing on Whidbey Island, or even if you live here, if you don't feel like going out, they'll bring it to you!

It can't get much better than that!
