Langley Mystery Weekend 2010 - Langley Whidbey Island Washington

The Langley Mystery Weekend 2010 theme was Male Order Murder - Did you guess whodunit?

Langley Mystery Weekend 2010 Stories and Pictures - Read about it and tell us about your experience. If you didn't participate, maybe we'll "light a fire" and see you next year! If you do decide to come and you need a place to stay overnight, Langley hotels and other Whidbey Island hotels book up fast for this event, so decide soon!

langley mystery weekend 2010 water view 1 The town of Langley Washington is a beautiful town on the southern end of Whidbey Island, right on the waters of the Saratoga Passage.

The shops and medical offices on the south side of First Street are on a cliff and have absolutely nothing between them and the water except a lovely small beach.

If rain hits, just pop into one of the little cafes to wait it out with a cup of your favorite coffee or hot chocolate. The proprietors will be happy to chat you up and tell all about the history of Langley.

But there was a murder in Langley on the weekend of February 27-28, 2010. The body, a male, was found outside the Langley Washington post office with a letter opener buried deep in his chest.

The coroner drew the chalk outline around the body, the body was removed, and so began Male Order Murder, the 26th annual Langley Mystery Weekend.

The victim was Yuri Enluc; although he was born on beautiful Whidbey Island, he grew up in Plotsylvania, a land far far away.

Who killed Yuri, and why?

That's what the estimated 2000-3000 mystery weekend sleuths who converged on the town of Langley Washington this weekend were determined to find out.

The line formed at the Langley Visitor Center; participants paid their entrance fee of $10 ($25 for groups of four) and obtained:

A copy of the fictitious Langley Gazette newspaper which is used every year at the Langley mystery weekend to help solve the mystery:

A map of where all the clues were located in the town:

A copy of the Coroner's Report:

And a form (which I don't have a picture of), to write down their final conclusions on the Langley mystery weekend 2010, that would eventually be entered into a drawing that would yield several prizes.

Once they had the above documents, our weekend mystery solvers were off and sleuthing, rain and no shine...

In the end, it was determined that Yuri's Aunt Alexandra Nuluc Dickins was the perpetrator behind the 26th annual Langley mystery weekend, she was the one who did him in, to save him from becoming a vampire!

But oh what it took to figure out this mystery:

Our sleuths visited forty(!) of the lovely shops located in Langley to collect written clues (which is actually pretty cool because Langley businesses are so varied and so interesting!) -

The clues!

Then there were numerous interrogations of the various characters (many of which are the townspeople who participate every year in the Langley mystery weekend, dressing up in costume and mingling with the weekend detectives).

Sometimes these characters told the truth and other times they threw out misleading information -

And then a whole lot of head scratching back at homes, Langley hotels and other Whidbey Island hotels where detectives of all ages read the fictitious Langley Gazette newspaper, combed through the clues, studied the coroner's report, and deduced who was most likely to have done the dirty deed.

Time for the 26th annual Langley Mystery Weekend 2010 reveal!

On Sunday everyone converged at the Langley Middle School auditorium where it was revealed who was behind this terrible mystery, and why.

As mentioned above, it was Yuri's Aunt Alexandra Nuluc Dickins who did him in, supposedly in an effort to keep him from becoming a vampire. A less than admirable motive (although supposedly done out of love).

Names were drawn out of the bucket with the correct answer and names were drawn out of the bucket with the incorrect answers.

In all there were 19 fabulous prizes awarded at the conclusion of the 26th Annual Langley Mystery Weekend.

Our family's experiences with the annual Langley Mystery Weekend

langley mystery weekend 2010 window costume Every year for the past four years (we moved to Whidbey Island from California in December 2006) my husband and our daughter (Curtis and Shelby) have participated in the Langley Mystery Weekend, all the while playfully arguing over which one of them is Holmes and which one of them is Watson.

They've had an absolute blast every year (while our son and I stay home and watch movies or do whatever because he doesn't want to go) and the 26th annual Langley Mystery Weekend 2010 was no different.

Curtis and Shelby sleuth it up and then we chow down when they come home with lots of chocolate goodies from Island Angel Chocolates.

I mean really, is there any other way to solve a mystery than when you're devouring mouth-watering chocolates?

Unfortunately we ate every last bit and it was all gone before I could take even one picture... langley mystery weekend 2010 inn at langley fish on wall
